Exclusive License to GALAXY Classroom
Teacher Universe ™ Receives Exclusive License to GALAXY Classroom ® Georgia Public Television first to provide GALAXY Classroom to all schools in State of Georgia September 16, 1999 - Emeryville, CA - Teacher Universe, Inc. announced that it has received the exclusive licensing rights to distribute, develop and provide teacher training for the elementary science and language arts GALAXY Classroom curricula from the Galaxy Institute for Education. The licensing agreement allows Teacher Universe, under the GALAXY Classroom brand, to market, sell and support teachers and train on all current and future GALAXY Classroom products. The first adoption for Teacher Universe under the new agreement was made by the State of Georgia. Georgia Public Television will extend and expand the coverage of GALAXY Classroom to include all schools in the State of Georgia under the terms of the new agreement. "GALAXY Classroom is strategic to our overall mission to use technology and hands-on activities to deliver the most engaging educational tools to teachers," explains Deborah Bond-Upson, president, Teacher Universe, Inc. "GALAXY Classroom fits our model because all programs correlate to state and national curriculum standards and are accountable to the standards and benchmarks through informal and formal assessment." "The renewal and expansion of the Georgia adoption was confirmation that the Galaxy Curriculum is well received by teachers, administrators and students. Furthermore, the extensive independent research of WestEd provides evidence that GALAXY Classroom works to help improve both teacher practice and student achievement gains," adds Mrs. Bond-Upson. GALAXY Classroom curriculum brings many best practices in teaching and learning together with an extensive array of resources including hands-on and minds-on investigations, take home extensions, interdisciplinary connections and teacher learning opportunities with on-going support - all delivered through state of the art telecommunications technologies and quality interactive/inquiry-based video. GALAXY Classroom students go on-location via video inquiry adventures to explore interesting and intriguing real world issues. During the inquir y, Galaxy students use fax machines or Internet connections to interact with students on the video and other GALAXY Classroom students across the country. They ask questions, pose hypotheses and share ideas. The Far West Laboratory study showed that Galaxy science students in grades 3-5 matched the achievement levels of students a full grade level ahead of them, according to measures adapted from the California Science Assessment. In Language Arts, Galaxy students outperformed comparable students by 145 percent in reading comprehension and 37 percent in vocabulary in achievement on the CAT/5. Bill Schmitt, Director, GALAXY Classroom added, "Galaxy has been strongly accepted and implemented in schools throughout the U.S. and we are especially pleased that Georgia has renewed and expanded its adoption. The feedback from teachers and improved student test scores are testament to the solid education foundation and pedagogy of our elementary science and language arts curriculum. About GALAXY Classroom
