First-time license holders must take the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PRAXIS II PLT) test and an NTE specialty area test or Praxis II subject assessment. Individuals are required to take only one specialty area test or subject assessment for their first North Carolina license, even if they are eligible for more than one area of licensure.

Information about The PRAXIS Series tests
Out of state applicant who has deficiencies in eligibility receives a 1-year temporary permit and with eligibility receives a
5-year temporary license. Initial License lasts 3 years and a Continuing license lasts 5 years. Teaching licenses are specific to age and subject taught.
