The NMTA (New Mexico Teacher Assessments) is a battery of tests that comprise a successor examination to the Core Battery of the National Teachers Exam (NTE). All individuals applying for licensure after July 30, 1999, who have not passed the NTE Core Battery after January 1, 1996, will be required to pass the NMTA. The NMTA is comprised of: New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Basic Skills, New Mexico Assessment of General Knowledge, and New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency (Elementary or Secondary).

Information about New Mexico Teacher Assessments
1 year nonrenewable for those that have met requirements but not taken tests. Initial License lasts 3 years, within those 3 years one must apply for a Standard License which lasts 9 years. GED or High School Diploma, the rest of the requirements are left to the school districts.
