Information about The PRAXIS Series tests
Out-of-State applicants applying for a Professional Educator License may receive a non-renewable Professional Educator License valid for 1 year if all requirements are not met. A Professional Educator License is valid for 5 years. Six (6) credits of coursework are required to renew this License. If this renewal procedure is not completed within the 5 years then an Emergency License that is valid for 1 year may be issued. A 10-year Master License may be obtained by meeting requirements beyond those for the 5-year Professional Educator License. A Substitute License or Permit may be obtained by having the district send a letter to the Department of Public Instruction explaining the need for substitutes. After this procedure, the Department of Public Instruction will issue either a Substitute License or a Substitute Permit to the applicant. Both require a bachelor's degree. A Substitute License is issued when applicant has a bachelor's degree in education; otherwise a Permit is issued.
