Focus of Study:
  • Using computers as a catalyst to motivate low-achieving students.
  • Interesting software becomes a springboard for thoughtful discussions with a teacher specially trained in Socratic methods.
Results of Study:
Data analysis for National Diffusion Network validation:
  • the results have been dramatic.
  • Pogrow average gains between fall and spring of more than 15 percentile points on standardized reading and math tests—gains that exceed the national average.
  • The results are even more dramatic for the more reliable spring-to-spring testing data.
  • Reading gains were 67% higher than national averages, and math gains were 123% higher
  • Numerous students have been reclassified from "remedial" to "gifted" after participating in the HOTS program.
