Leadership
at the state and school levels is the single most important
factor affecting the successful integration of technology. At
the school level, the principal must have a vision of what is
possible through the use of technology, must know how technology
can support best practices in instruction and assessment, and
must highlight the efforts of teachers who attempt to use technology
to improve teaching and learning.
-
The
degree of success that a school has in implementing technology
will depend on the quality and maturity of its technology plan.
-
Successful
integration of technology into teaching and learning is a slow,
time-consuming process that requires on-site and on-demand technical
support and technology integration assistance.
-
Effective
use of technology requires changes in teaching and the adoption
of pedagogically-sound technologies.
- Integrating
technology requires a basic infrastructure that supports the equipment
and facilities necessary to implement a technology plan. Schools
that serve economically disadvantaged students must first overcome
barriers such as access to telephone lines and electricity and
security issues before technology can be successfully adopted.
- Educators
need to gauge their progress toward technology implementation
by using evaluation tools to help them reflect on, document, and
discuss their initiatives.
