Successful Technology Planning
Linda Bartone
Director of Technology Planning

There is nothing quite like the anticipation, excitement, and yes, even the challenges, of a new school year. The beginning of a new school year is a good time to evaluate and monitor the status of your current technology plan. Here are some back-to-school tips that will help ensure the continued success of using technology to support teaching and learning:
  • Make sure that your computer files are up-to-date. Delete or forward old information and files. Add new information that you need for the school year.
  • Check that new computer hardware and peripherals are installed and working properly, including printers, monitors, hard drives, Internet connections, and networks.
  • Determine if new or updated software packages that support instructional initiatives have been ordered and installed and that staff development and technical support has been provided.
  • Prepare "how to" handouts to insure students are ready to use new software.
  • Evaluate whether staff development plans for the new school year meet educator technology competencies for using technology as a tool across the curriculum.
  • Form grade-level or school-wide committees to explore grant opportunities.
  • Assess technology progress by reviewing the priorities identified in the technology plan for the past year and for the upcoming year.

Taking time at the beginning of the year to monitor and evaluate your technology plan will help insure a stellar beginning of the new school year!

Tell us about your successes and challenges in revising and revamping your technology plan. Did you meet the requirements and expectations of your school or district? We would like to feature some of your ideas in future columns.
