Great Musicians Joyce Hawkins TU Curriculum Integration Specialist

This project-based music appreciation unit excites and motivates high school students in learning about various music genres and adresses state standards in music education, language arts, social studies, math, technology, comprehensive health, and work force development. Tennessee state standards, teacher-led activities, student-centered activities, resources, and student assessment strategies are included in the Lesson Plan. A teacher presentation and sample student activities are provided.

The unit is introduced with a multimedia slide show with accompanying audio clips of various musicians. Music professionals also visit the class and participate in interview sessions with students.

Students select a musician and plan a concert. They design brochures, prepare budgets, and create databases of their selected musician's works. Students interview musicians, design a multimedia slide show, and more.
