If I were Scout, I would
be very proud to have Atticus for a father and Jem for a brother.
I would also be proud of myself for being able to read and write
before beginning school. Scout's experience with her Uncle Jack
shows that she has learned a lot from her father's actions. When
Uncle Jack punishes her for calling her cousin a name without asking
her side of the story, she points out to him very clearly that he
did not treat her fairly. Scout knows at an early age that people
should be treated fairly.
I think it would also
be hard to be in Scout's shoes. She is a tomboy who loves to play
outside with her brother and Dill and does not want to act like
a lady. Jem is constantly saying that she acts like a girl when
she is hesitant to go along with something she thinks is not right.
From my perspective, it would be hard to be a girl with so many
expectations about how girls should act. I would feel somewhat confined
by my surroundings.
