  • Energy in the Air Sounds from the Orchestra. This site designed for ThinkQuest provides excellent information about the various instruments in the orchestra as well as several sound files of classical music demonstrating performances of the instruments. A discussion of how sound is made is included with diagrams of sound waves and some simple sound experiments.
  • Gary Ewer's Music Theory Site offers a wealth of music resources including free online music theory classes with activities and quizzes, a glossary of music terms, composition paper to print out, and other features. Mr. Ewer is a high school music teacher, composer, and conductor.
  • Heart and Soul A Celebration of African American Music This web site provides easy to read information about the different styles of African American music, music clips for each style, and a list of related and useful web sites.

  • The Mississippi River Of Song A Smithsonian Institution series for public television and radio that explores the richness and vitality of American music at the close of the twentieth century. Although it was originally aired in 1999, you can purchase the videos or the complete multimedia pack from the PBS store. A terrific way to integrate the arts, music, and geography into your curriculum! The site provides a teacher guide and plenty of activities.
